Our goal is to provide the best dental care for you and your family to help you maintain exceptional oral health. We understand that most of the time, your dental treatment will not involve cosmetic dentistry, but simply ethical, high quality general dental treatments.

Preventive Dental Program

Good, long-lasting oral health always starts with prevention. At Kensington Square Dental, our preventive dental program involves a cooperative effort between the patient and the dental team to preserve and maintain healthy teeth and gums by averting the onset, progression, and recurrence of dental diseases and conditions. Good oral hygiene habits, a balanced diet, and regular dental checkups go a long way to preventing dental disease. Professional dental cleanings (scaling, root planning, polishing) and fluoride treatments, are performed by our highly skilled Registered Dental Hygienists.

Tooth Colored Fillings

Composite fillings are indicated when a tooth is slightly decayed, chipped or cracked. Fillings are usually completed in a single visit and the results are durable for many years. Decay and/or damaged tooth structure is carefully removed and a new filling is placed to complete the restoration. Composite fillings are highly aesthetic, and are virtually indistinguishable from the rest of the tooth. Fillings can be made of many different materials. At Kensington Square Dental we will help you decide on which filling material is the right choice for your tooth. We do not provide mercury amalgam fillings due to environmental concerns.

Dental Crowns

A crown, also known as a “cap”, is a replica of your own tooth that is placed over your natural tooth much like the way a thimble fits over a finger. When a tooth is extensively damaged a crown is required. Damage can be from many sources including decay, trauma, wear, or acidic foods. Crowns strengthen and improve the appearance of your existing tooth. Crowns usually require two appointments. At the initial appointment the decay and any damaged tooth structure is removed and a filling is placed to support the new crown. The tooth is then prepared to accept a crown. Impressions are then taken to allow accurate modeling of the prepared tooth. A temporary crown is fabricated and inserted while the permanent crown is custom fabricated by our skilled laboratory partners. At the second appointment the permanent crown is cemented and adjusted to fine tune your bite and the esthetics of the crown.

Bridges

When teeth are missing, a bridge is a good option to replace teeth. A fixed bridge stays in the mouth and is not removed. A fixed bridge improves chewing and speaking function, restore smiles and prevents shifting of the opposing and adjacent teeth. A fixed bridge requires two appointments. At the first appointment the teeth on either side of the missing teeth are prepared to accept the bridge. Impressions are then taken to allow accurate modeling of the teeth. A temporary bridge is then fabricated and inserted while our skilled laboratory partner custom-fabricates a permanent bridge. At the second appointment, the permanent bridge is inserted and adjusted to ensure correct bite and aesthetics.

Bonding

Also known as composite (tooth coloured) filling, bonding is used to repair a tooth that is affected by decay, cracks, and fractures, etc. The decayed or affected portion of the tooth will be removed and then filled with a composite filling. It is usually done in a single visit and the results last for several years. Bonding works well for teeth that are chipped or only slightly decayed.

Crowns and Bridges

Otherwise known as a "cap", this is a replica of your own tooth placed carefully over your existing tooth. It strengthens, restores, and improves the appearance of your natural tooth. A crown is placed over an individual tooth in much the same way as a thimble over a finger. Crowns can also strengthen a tooth to accommodate the attachment of a false tooth otherwise known as a bridge.

Endodontic Therapy

Also known as a Root Canal, this is a treatment designed to save diseased or injured teeth. This field of dentistry deals with the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of disorders of the dental nerve. If your tooth nerve becomes infected, bacteria will begin to grow within the tooth. This growth results in pressure and causes pain as well as possible facial swelling. Root Canal Treatment is necessary when the nerve of a tooth becomes diseased or infected. In such cases the nerve of the tooth must be removed. Previously if a tooth became infected it would have simply been extracted. Today however, every possible step is taken to save all teeth and keep you with your natural teeth for life.

Impacted Wisdom Teeth

A common dental issue among individuals when there is not enough space at the rear of the jaw for the tooth to erupt from the gum properly. When there is not enough space the wisdom teeth become trapped and often push into the neighbouring teeth which can cause discomfort or pain. They can also partially erupt from the gum which can cause a pocket in the gum, prone to bacterial infections. It is recommended that impacted wisdom teeth be removed as early as possible to avoid infection and crowding or pushing teeth out of alignment.

Dental Implants

Small titanium posts that replace the root portion of a missing tooth. Dental implants are a great way to replace missing teeth and also provide a fixed solution to having removable partial or complete dentures. Implants provide excellent support and retention for these dental appliances. Dental implants are very strong, stable, and durable and will last many years, but on occasion, they will have to be re-tightened or replaced due to normal wear.
